CINEMA ROOMS
A cinematic experience, designed around your home.
Transform a room within your home into a private cinema that combines exceptional technology, considered design and complete comfort.
At Ardenmere, we create bespoke cinema rooms as part of a wider construction and renovation project, carefully integrating every element into the architecture of the space. From the room layout and acoustic performance to lighting, seating and concealed technology, every detail is considered to create an immersive environment that feels like it belongs naturally within your home.
Whether you are looking for a dedicated screening room, a sophisticated family entertainment space or a multi-purpose room for films, sport and gaming, we can create a cinema tailored entirely around the way you want to use it.

01 DESIGN
Designed as part of your home.
A home cinema should be more than a large screen and comfortable chairs.
The most successful cinema rooms are designed as complete spaces, with the technology, joinery, lighting, acoustics and interior finishes working together from the outset.
By considering these elements during the construction process, we can conceal cables, speakers and equipment within walls, ceilings and bespoke cabinetry, leaving you with a beautifully finished room without unnecessary visual clutter.
From contemporary and understated to richly detailed and traditional, the design can be tailored to complement the character of your property.
02 SOUND
Immersive sound and considered
acoustics.
Exceptional sound is fundamental to the cinema experience.
Depending on the space, we can fully isolate the room, with decoupled walls, acoustic doors and treated ceilings and floors, or improve the soundproofing within the existing structure.
Either way, acoustic treatments help control reflections and improve clarity, and panels, wall finishes and fabrics are integrated discreetly into the overall design.
Speaker positions, screen placement and seating layouts are considered together to create an immersive and balanced viewing environment, rather than treating the technology as an afterthought.

03 PICTURE
Cinema quality picture.
Whether your preference is a large-format display or a dedicated projection system, we can create the right visual experience for the room.
Screen dimensions, viewing distances, projector positioning and sightlines are considered during the design stage, so the finished installation works with both the proportions of the room and the way you intend to use it.
Technology can be integrated discreetly into the architecture, with equipment and cabling concealed wherever possible for a clean, sophisticated finish.
04 SEATING
Bespoke cinema seating.
Comfort is an essential part of the experience.
Cinema seating can be specified around the dimensions of the room, with options ranging from individual reclining chairs to generous sofas and tiered seating arrangements.
Where required, raised platforms can provide clear sightlines for multiple rows while adding a distinctive theatre-style character to the space.
Every element is considered not only for comfort, but for how it contributes to the overall design.
05 LIGHTING
Lighting that changes the atmosphere.
Lighting plays a major role in creating the right mood.
We can incorporate dimmable and programmable lighting, concealed LED illumination, feature lighting and low-level floor or step lighting to create different scenes for different occasions.
Bright, welcoming lighting can make the room suitable for entertaining, while softer, carefully controlled illumination can transform the space when the film begins.

06 HOW YOU USE IT
Built around the way you live
Your cinema does not have to be limited to films.
The same space can be designed for watching live sport, gaming, streaming, listening to music or entertaining friends and family.
The design process starts with understanding how you want to use the room, allowing us to create a space that works for your lifestyle as well as delivering an exceptional cinematic experience.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Home cinema questions, answered.
Do I need planning permission for a home cinema room?
Usually not, if the cinema goes into an existing room. Building regulations are a separate matter. They apply to a new basement, a garage or loft conversion, structural changes and new electrical work, and a new basement usually needs planning as well. Listed buildings need consent for most internal changes. We tell you which applies to your property at the outset.
How much does a home cinema room cost?
It depends almost entirely on the room and the specification. The construction work, the level of acoustic isolation, the screen or projector, the sound system, the seating and the joinery all move the number. We price each project properly after a site visit and a conversation about how you want to use the room.
Which rooms make the best home cinemas?
Basements are ideal, because they are naturally dark and well isolated from the rest of the house. Garages, lofts and spare rooms can all work well too. Room proportions matter as much as size, because they affect both sightlines and acoustics, and we assess the space before recommending a layout.
Can a cinema room be soundproofed?
Yes. Depending on the space, we can fully isolate the room, using decoupled walls, acoustic doors and treated ceilings and floors, or improve the soundproofing within the existing structure. Full isolation is far easier and more effective when it's planned into the build, which is one of the main reasons to design a cinema as part of a wider project.
Should I choose a projector or a large screen?
It depends on the room and how you use it. A projector gives the largest image and the most cinematic feel in a dark, dedicated room. A large-format display copes better with ambient light and suits a space that also doubles as a family room. We talk through both at the design stage.
Can you add a cinema room as part of a wider renovation?
Yes, and it's the best way to do it. Whether we're digging a new basement, converting a garage or loft, or refurbishing the whole house, the cinema can be designed in from the start. That way the structure, wiring, acoustics and lighting are built for it, rather than added once the walls are finished.
